Hyo Jin Annika KIM installed the Canadian styled deck in the gallery space with her experience based on ‘the living environment’ in the countryside of Canada. This project was established upon the concept of ‘autochthonous’: the appellation for an autogenously built architectural structure from indigenous culture. The deck installed in unsuitable way shows the outdoor part on the structure’s border. In other words, only the attached architecture without its main body was installed as an autonomous structure. The deck different from balcony or veranda mingles artificial with nature. The deck tends to expand its territory between architecture and land. From this point of view, the artist questions the meaning of art through the situation presented by the relationship between the Canadian deck as a foreign culture and its unusual environment, the gallery space.
